The study is a detailed account of the observations of the student at the Lusaka City Council and from the interactions with the street vendors in Lusaka city. To effectively carry out this study, the student was attached to the Lusaka City Council so that he be able to comprehensively analyse the communication strategies and techniques that Lusaka City Council employed in its campaign towards the control of street vending in Lusaka city. This study reflects on the commitment of Lusaka City Council in its use of the communication strategies and techniques towards the control of street vending in Lusaka city. The student analyses this commitment by examining the functions and activities of the Lusaka City Council. The findings of this study show that street vending in Lusaka is hardly controlled because it is a phenomenon that is caused by various factors. These factors include: People's need to survive or earn a living because of lack of employment and the failing economy; Limited designated markets in Lusaka; Lusaka City Council's limited ability to effectively and aggressively persuade the vendors not to sell on streets; Lusaka City Council's inability to identify and use those channels of communication its clients are accustomed to. This study therefore, documents these findings, among others, pertaining to the control of street vending in Lusaka city; the causes of the problem and what can be done through communication in order to bring sanity to the problem of street vending. The emphasis of this study is on the use of communication towards the control of street vending. The methodology used in this study is outlined in the appropriate chapter of this report. The principle recommendation made in this study is that the Lusaka City Council should employ the communication strategies and techniques in its communication system as it endeavours towards the control of street vending in Lusaka.en_US
