Abstract
Firstly, I would like to thank the almighty God for having kept me this far and having accorded me a rare opportunity to study at the University of Zambia.
The completion of this dissertation would not have been possible without the contributions, support and help of many people. Many thanks to the Department of Physical Planning and Housing under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for sponsoring my studies. I would also like to thank all the lecturers and members of staff in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies for their assistance, support and guidance during the course of my studies.
