This chapter provides insights into issues related to mainstreaming environmental education (EE)
between and across institutions. It is noted that EE would greatly be assisted in its effort to
produce impact in society if its practitioners had access to principles of how best to mainstream
the fi eld across institutions. Unfortunately, no such principles that fi t every situation exist at
present, thereby perpetuating challenges of mainstreaming EE across institutions. The chapter
challenges readers to open the ‘black box’ of mainstreaming and to share issues and experiences.
International readers and those struggling with mainstreaming EE in higher education
institutions will find this chapter illuminating.
