dc.description.abstract | This chapter discusses formal education from 1964 when Zambia became independent to 1973. It focuses on the 1963 United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s recommendations to the government on education, the educational policies adopted by the new government and the successes scored and challenges encountered at each level of education. Data was collected through desk review (documentary analysis). The chapter lays the foundation for the rest of the volume by examining achievements in the education sector since independence. | en |
