dc.description.abstractThis is a theoretical paper based on the curriculum designing approcach of competency based education that the Zambian education has embraced as a way of providing quality education to its nationals. A competency-based curriculum is designed with a view to help learners acquire knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are likely to equip them with competencies that they can effectively use to serve society. In this paper the authors have analysed the Zambian education system adoption of the competency-based curriculum whose review started in 2013 and then gradually implemented until 2017. Examples have been given of some countries that have in the past adopted and implemented a competency-based curriculum. An explanation of the historical and theoretical perspective of a competency-based curriculum has been given too. In the conclusion, a brief analysis of the implications of Zambia’s adoption of the compertency based curriculum has been done.en
