dc.description.abstractThe study sought to determine the parents' knowledge and practice of cultural practices that may contribute to HIV/AIDS transmission. The objectives of the study were to determine parents' knowledge and practice of cultural practices that may contribute to HIV/AIDS transmission. To determine the parents' knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission, investigate factors that may contribute to HIV/AIDS transmission and find out which cultural practices parents are involved in which may contribute to HIV/AIDS transmission. A cross sectional study was carried out in September, 2003, in Monze. The area of research was divided into two, the peri urban and rural Monze. A random selection (fish bowl method) from these areas was done to obtain the sample of 50 for study. An interview schedule was used to collect data. The analysis of this data followed the quantitative and qualitative methods. This helped to answer the objectives of the study. The research findings were that 2.9% of the respondents had positive cultural practice and a high level of knowledge. Thirteen percent (13%) of these respondents had low levels of knowledge and negative cultural practice.en_US
