| dc.description.abstract | This study was an enquiry into the effectiveness of the food security pack programme (FSP) on food security among small scale beneficiaries in Zambia. The Government of the Republic of Zambia had seen the need to introduce programmes to help curb poverty among which was the Food Security Pack Programme (FSP). The objectives of the study were to examine the extent to which the FSP had contributed to food security among households in Chilubi District, the timeliness of delivery of inputs to beneficiaries; and the challenges faced in implementing the FSP. The conceptual framework used in this study is the Agricultural System that has a vision or a goal to bring about positive change in the lives of the programme beneficiaries concerned. This conceptual framework is adapted from Sen’s (1980) idea of Food Entitlements, a conceptual framework for understanding Food Security Pack programme. This approach is a demand driven one, which fosters production chain development, by strengthening the innovative capacities of the various stakeholders. Qualitative data were analysed manually while quantitative data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) computer software. Research methodology covered details of the research design including the approaches, methods and instruments used in undertaking this study. The main thrust of this study was to identify the challenges and achievements being faced by the FSP programme in meeting its efficiency and effectiveness of attaining its overall objectives. The study relied by and large on quantitative research design, although a qualitative approach was also used to help in triangulation.
