dc.description.abstractWhile education is considered to be a basic right and need, the management of secondary 'education in Zambia has been faced with setbacks due to several bottlenecks, this calls for deliberate action that will bring about the necessary changes in management. Use of Total quality management is the first step in realizing these changes. Several school managers are already using this management method. Such schools have faced several challenges in the use of TQM to improve management, the general objective of this study was to establish factors influencing the implementation of total quality management in public schools in Zambia: A case study of Siavonga secondary school in Siavonga District. The specific objectives included, to establish the effect of culture on the implementation of TQM practices in public secondary schools, to determine the extent to which management commitment influence the implementation of TQM practices in public secondary schools, to examine the relationship between organizational change and implementation of TQM practice in public secondary schools and to establish the role of resource on the implementation of TQM practice in public secondary schools, the study * employed a descriptive survey study. the target population included the public secondary school i Headteacher. deputy head teacher, teachers and heads of departments Siavonga secondary ' schools. It also included the three Educations Standards officers, the total sample size of 56 respondents was drawn using purposive random sampling. Data collected was both qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data was analyzed using Thematic analysis while quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics .It was found that organizational culture, management commitment, resources and organization played a role in TQM implementation, the researcher found that it was very essential for some areas to change in order for TQM to be implemented. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that for TQM to be implemented organizational culture should be taken into consideration and where necessary changed to give way for the implication of TQM practices. The management too should be committed while engaging stakeholders in implementation of TQM practices.en
