| dc.description.abstract | This paper discusses the effects of shopping malls development on small retailers in Zambia, a case study of Kamloops and Matero malls in Lusaka. Shopping malls are becoming a symbol of fashion and a new lifestyle among the new generation. Today, we have witnessed an increasing number of shopping malls development in all corners of the country. In addition, we have all come to appreciate and accept the presence of malls in our neighbourhood because they have become a place where people can shop, eat, meet friends, watch movies and have fun, and visiting malls have become a sort of leisure activity. Therefore, the objective of this research was to explore the effects of shopping malls development on small retailers in Zambia. The sample size comprised of 246 small-scale businesses in the townships were interviewed face to face at their business premises. A questionnaire with a semi-structured interview guideline was used. Each business outlet provided data on all the questions. The data was then analysed and interpreted both graphically and mathematically using manual and computer-based tools in this case Microsoft Excel to prepare and present comprehensive charts to define the results. | en |
