- ItemThe University of Zambia Research Policy and Intellectual Property Rights(The University of Zambia Press, 2009)The University of Zambia (UNZA) is one of the three public universities established by the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) to provide higher education in the country through teaching, research and public service. To carry out these functions, UNZA has nine schools consisting of Agricultural Sciences, Education, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Medicine, Mines, Natural Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine. With the firm established undergraduate programmes by late 70s, UNZA introduced postgraduate programmes in the 80s and by 1994 established the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies (DRGS) with a mandate to promote and coordinate post-graduate studies and research at the University. DRGS's core function in research is therefore to create an enabling environment for University staff and students, and public at large to be involved in research activities. Whereas, the University has made tremendous progress in teaching and service, research has lagged behind particularly in the area of scholarly publications, their commercialisation and protection. To promote scholarly research, publication, commercialization and protection, and interaction between UNZA and the Zambian public, private and civil sectors, the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies embarked on developing a Research Policy and Intellectual Property Policy. It is our belief as a Directorate, that members of the University Community, the Zambian public, private and civil sector will find the Research Policy and the Intellectual Property Policy stimulating and encouraging to undertake research, publish and commercialise it not only at UNZAbut in the entire country. We look forward and encourage the academia, the public, private and civil sectors to partner and undertake research of multi-disciplinary nature guided by these Research and Intellectual Property policies

- ItemZAMBIA JOURNAL OF EDUCATION(School of education, 2015)The journal seeks to provide a forum to these education professionals for the dissemination of current views and ideas on education practices, policies and development, and research findings in Zambia. Contributions may discuss issues or present research findings in primary schools, secondary schools, tertiary level institutions and/or management and support sectors. Articles that address education issues in other countries, but show how these would are relevant to Zambia, will be considered on merit. It is the wish of the School of Education to contribute to the development of the Zambian education system and the country as a whole through this journal. Consequently, the Editorial Board urges academics in the School of Education and other educational professionals to engage in research that would answer a number of questions in Zambia’s education system and use this journal to disseminate their results to the country and beyond. We wish to transform university scholarship into practice that helps the Zambian education system to strengthen and benefit its various target beneficiaries better. The Editorial Board would like issues of ZAJE to include articles in four major thematic areas, namely; reports on researches conducted, including progress reports on on-going research, reports on academic or professional seminars, book reviews, and discussions on current issues in education. The current issue has the first two articles focusing on Special Education issues, while the next two are on the topical issues of Education for All and HIV and AIDS in education. The fifth and sixth articles deal with issues of religion and education in Zambia, while the seventh and eighth articles are on mentorship of junior academic staff at UNZA and CBU and review of teacher education syllabuses in colleges of education, respectively. . It is hoped that these articles will provoke further research and discussion on the discussed issues and other topics of national interest in education

- Itemfreedom and Liberation Struggle in Southern Africa:Recognizing Guyana's Contribution(Foreign Service Unit(FSU) Ministry of Foreign Affairs,Guyana, 2016) Hunte, KenrickAbstract: The Caribbean held the singular view that Apartheid was more important for dismantling than the 'Cold War', for life would have been backward-looking if yesterday's slavery would have morphed into Apartheid today. Hence, connecting the descendant of slaves with their ancestrial home in Africa is to shun blindness for justice and to allow Ubuntu (or human kindness or humanity towards others) to thrive. This paper addresses this issue in the context of the liberation struggle for Southern Africa. It highlights the specific contributions by Guyanese who used their talent and skills in the struggle to end Apartheid in South Africa
