Abstract
The eclectic method to language teaching is understood to be the use of several methods in one lesson. It is also argued that it is a reaction against a single method owing to the fact that each of the individual methods has strengths and weaknesses. However, there are still a number of questions around the conceptualisation of the method. For example, how many methods should one combine to come up with the eclectic method? Additionally, does the number
of methods which one combines have an effect on the overall eclectic method? This paper makes an attempt to answer these two questions and at the same time provide frameworks through which the eclectic method to language teaching should be understood.
